Six weeks before birthing

Expecting the imminent arrival of a gorgeous new cria is very exciting.
Therefore, we need to look at various events leading up to this wonderful time.
Firstly, - the care of the mother.
It is a good idea to ensure she has had her AD&E vitamin injection and a 5 in 1 injection, six weeks prior to her due date. We recommend feeding her a lactating mix in the latter stages of her pregnancy, - the last 2 or 3 weeks, when her unborn cria is growing rapidly and developing its secondary follicles. We feed this lactating mix through until about a month after birth, when the dam reaches peak milk production. This will support the extra nutrition needed at this time.
We need to assemble a birthing kit in anticipation of the new arrival.

Birthing Kit
For convenience, we have a plastic container with a handle which includes;
- Iodine to put on the naval of the newborn to stop any infection
- A bottle of water based, sterile lubrication (vet lube)
- Gloves
- A notepad and pen to record events, with the vets phone number on the front page
- A cria cover
- Old towels to dry the cria if needed
